Founded in 1997, GTx, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of therapeutic products related to men's health. The company's drug discovery and development programs are focused on small molecules that selectively target nuclear hormone receptors for estrogens and androgens. These nuclear hormone receptors are among the best-understood receptor systems, and pharmaceuticals have been developed to either stimulate or block these receptors for over 50 years.

To this end, we are actively recruiting for the following position:

Animal Resources, Scientist

Position Summary:

Working within a multi-disciplinary team of preclinical research and development team, the candidate will conduct research to examine the in vivo pharmacology and mechanism of action of proprietary drug candidates. The job also has a service component where the candidate would be expected to provide assistance to other scientists with the conduct of their in vivo animal studies.

General Purpose

To carry out research on investigational drugs on new indications e.g. (not exclusive) eye disorders, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases

To facilitate researchers in, in vivo screening of drugs with animal models.

Position or Core Responsibilities:

  • Carry out independent research on novel therapeutic targets for investigational drugs within the scope of the overall research goals of the company
  • Develop animal models that would help in screening of GTx compounds for new therapeutic indications
  • Individuals will closely interact with medicinal chemists and preclinical scientists to characterize newly synthesized molecules. Should be capable of preparing reports and communicating accurate information in a timely manner
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and willing to work in a high performance team are essential
  • Design and implement experiments, identify new techniques as required for the study

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • PhD in physiology, pharmacology or equivalent field with 2-3 years experience
  • Demonstrated experience with the following techniques: Animal handling and dosing,
  • blood vessel cannulation, microsurgery
  • Cell culture, cloning, DNA and RNA extraction from cells and tissues, real-time reverse
  • transcriptase PCR, protein extraction, protein purification, western blot,
  • immunoprecipitation, ELISA, handling radioactive isotopes, dissecting cell signaling
  • pathways
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and willing to work in a high
  • performance team are essential

Non-essential Skills and Experience:

Experience with animals models such as hypertension, diabetic retinopathy or implantable telemetry would be a plus.

Ability to isolate and culture primary cell lines, Microscopy and tissue processing.
